UM planning to open new university in China

University of Montana administrators hope to open an accredited university in China as early as fall 2005, UM President George Dennison said Tuesday.

There are currently 250 million college-aged people in China who are seeking a college education, Dennison said. It is difficult for them to gain access to colleges and universities around the world, so the idea is to bring the university to them.

“Programs would be delivered right there,” Dennison said.

The program would be offered only to Chinese students, not American students who want to study abroad, he said. However all classes would be taught in English.
