Craigslist founder wants public involved in news

Craig Newmark may be the world’s most famous customer support representative. The founder of Craigslist, the classified-ads website, spends much of his time personally answering customer e-mails, monitoring new ads and fighting what he calls "bad guys" – people who try to use the site for scamming and spamming.

He started the site 10 years ago in San Francisco as an e- mail list. Craigslist is now in 99 cities and 19 countries, handling 5 million postings a month.

Newmark’s title is "founder, chairman, customer service representative." He ceded the chief executive duties to Jim Buckmaster in November 2000.

Unbeknown to many users, Craigslist is a for-profit company, with yearly revenue that some have estimated at $7 million to $10 million.
