UM pharmacy school renamed "Skaggs School of Pharmacy"

The University of Montana’s pharmacy school has been renamed the Skaggs School of Pharmacy to honor a major contributor.

Leonard Samuel Skaggs’ many contributions have helped to make the program one of the best in the country, said Dave Forbes, dean of the College of Health Professions and Biomedical Sciences.

Skaggs is the former chairman of American Stores, a supermarket and drug store holding company that owned Jewels Food Stores, Savon-Drugs, Star markets, Acme Markets, Osco Drug, and Lucky Stores. In 1999, American Stores was sold to Albertsons Inc., a grocery chain whose original founders included Skaggs’ father.
