Angel networks investing in community’s future…. Much more than just money

Marquette group among those giving to entrepreneurs to boost economic development

Andrew Nunemaker was only going to make an investment.

But when he realized the potential in EMSystem Inc.’s business plan, he quit his job at GE Medical Systems as chief executive for Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand to become the top executive at the West Allis software company.

Nunemaker said he wouldn’t have even been looking at EMSystem if it weren’t for a relatively new angel investing network that, in the last two years, has become the biggest in the state in terms of number of members. It’s also one of the most active angel networks.

"In my case, being part of the network not only gave me a chance to look at some good investment opportunities, it gave me a chance at a career move," said Nunemaker, EMSystem’s chief executive officer since May.
