Montana seed company, WestBred,LLC of Bozeman plans several variety releases in near future

Producers can expect an influx of new cereal grain varieties in the next couple of years, according to Chris Berg of WestBred,LLC http://westbred.com/ .

"Many years of hard work and unparalleled plant breeding expertise has resulted in an unprecedented number of new options for wheat and barley growers in the west," said Berg of the 30-year-old private seed company of Bozeman.

In fact, the company has released several new cereal varieties to its six associate seed companies this year to be released to producers in the next couple of years.

"We develop unique, market-leading small grain real varieties including hard red spring and hard red winter wheats, spring durums, soft white spring and soft white winter, hard white wheat, feed and malt barleys," explained Berg. "The plant breeding program, headed by Dr. Dale Clark, includes the Pacific Northwest (PNW), including Montana. We also have other breeding programs in other small grain production areas of the United States."
