Kayaker envisions water park on the Gallatin River

Where rusting cable and massive chunks of concrete now clog the Gallatin River, Wes Heustess envisions whitewater rapids dotted with paddling kayakers.

In the same stretch of river, near Shed’s Bridge Fishing Access, Heustess envisions nice pools that hold plump trout, trails in the timber along the river and picnic tables.

Heustess pitched his "Gallatin River Park" plan this week to Gallatin County commissioners.

The park would be created by removing the rubbish from the riverbed and adding rocks to create waves, he said. It would be similar to man-made wave parks in Colorado, which have become big draws for kayakers and businesses in the area.
