Missoula based nvironmental engineer firm, Land and Water Consulting Inc. joins national firm
Merger of consultants part of local trend
Earlier this month, Land and Water Consulting Inc., a Missoula-based environmental engineering firm, merged with a national consulting and management concern based in Florida called PBS&J.
"We had bumped up against the limits of what we could do in the state. By integrating, we’ll see more positive growth," said Charlie Vandam, senior program manager at Land and Water.

The connection has already bulked up the workload for the 45-employee office, adding projects in Southern California, Nevada, Arizona and Nevada, Vandam said.
For PBS&J, which once stood for Post, Buckley, Schuh & Jernigan Inc., the Feb. 1 acquisition fits into its expansion plans for the West, said president Todd Kenner.
The 3,700-employee company eyed Land and Water for its technical expertise and geographic reach, Kenner said.
The acquisition marks the end of the independence of another of Missoula’s small environmental engineering firms, local industry leaders said.
"When we started (in 1989), there were a number of small to medium-sized Missoula-based companies. Some have gone out of business, others have merged or been acquired. Not many are still home-grown," said Wade Johnston, president of MCS Environmental Inc., which has about 60 employees and offices across Montana and in Seattle, Wash.
