New Mexico’s Permanent Fund grows by $3.1billion under governor’s first two years

Gov. Bill Richardson announced today that under the first two years of his administration, the state’s Permanent Fund has grown by $3.1 billion to a current total of more than $12 billion.

"It makes me proud that with prudent management and good planning, we continue to grow New Mexico’s Permanent Funds," said. Gov. Bill Richardson, who took office in January of 2003, in a prepared statement. "The hundreds of millions distributed by the funds every year mean better schools and lower taxes. By continuing to use and invest these funds wisely, we are improving our lives today and ensuring a better tomorrow for all New Mexicans."
