Montana is putting wind to work

In January, 11 turbines started generating power in western Wheatland County near Martinsdale. The turbines were bought used from California and refurbished. The project produces about 750 kilowatts.

Montanans have complained about the wind for years, but the state lags far behind much of the West when it comes to turning that wind into a strong source of power.

Those in the industry, however, say this year Montana is tilting toward significant changes. At least two sizeable wind power projects in central Montana are expected to start producing electricity in the coming months.
