Northern Ky. looking to 2020 with regional economic development concensus

A decade after Northern Kentucky leaders launched the Quest report with a vision of what the region could look like in 2020, officials are looking to update it by the end of this year.

Northern Kentucky University President James Votruba briefly outlined plans, which still are evolving, for the study during a meeting this week with the Tri-County Economic Development Foundation.

The earlier study, led by Thomas More College’s president at the time, the Rev. Bill Cleves, and Corporex Chairman Bill Butler, was launched in 1995 and made public in late 1996. The two will be honorary co-chairmen this year, Votruba said.

The study, to be formally announced next month, will focus on several areas, including the region’s economic effectiveness, education, strengthening the urban core, effective governance and livable communities.

"In this new economy, the regions that win will be those that can retain and attract human capital," one reason community livability is important, Votruba said.
