Push for innovation – Leaders tell how to make ‘era of prosperity’

Innovation-driven growth is replacing efficiency and quality as "the single most important factor in determining America’s success," top corporate and academic leaders say in a report released Wednesday.

G. Wayne Clough, president of Georgia Institute of Technology, and Samuel J. Palmisano, chairman and chief executive officer of IBM Corp., presented the report at a National Innovation Initiative Summit here sponsored by the Washington-based Council on Competitiveness http://www.compete.org/ .

Clough and Palmisano led a partnership of 18 corporate CEOs and university presidents who spent 15 months collecting and synthesizing the oral and written contributions of more than 400 "thought leaders" into a 70-page report on how to fashion "a new era of prosperity" at home and abroad.
