Helping guide students – Local (Arizona) leaders urge rigorous class choices

Local business leaders will work with about 3,700 eighth-grade students at four Arizona school districts this spring in an effort to get them to take tougher courses during their high school years.

A more rigorous curriculum with more math, science, language arts and social studies could exceed the minimum requirements for graduation. But it would pay off for the students in the long run with better jobs, acceptance to better colleges and, ultimately, higher salaries.
