Road trip finds Wi-Fi coldspots – Wireless capability changes lives of techies who love it in Great Falls

We live in a deeply divided country. The haves keep getting more while the have-nots are struggling to keep up. Coastal dwellers lead completely different existences from heartland counterparts.

I’m talking, of course, about wireless Internet access.

Twenty-eight days of a road trip covering nearly 7,500 miles teach the online vagabond two things. First, we’re living in a free Wi-Fi bubble around Puget Sound. Second, the revolution ain’t happening as fast as anticipated.

Good morning, Great Falls!

Installing high-speed Internet service with wireless capabilities has been life-changing.

I can get to the Web on my laptop anywhere in or around my house, and take advantage of the free Internet WiFi (wireless fidelity) service being beamed by radio signals out there when I travel.

If accessibility is becoming a "haves" versus "have-nots" issue, public wireless access might be something for the "have-nots" worth considering. The limited access to computers online at the Great Falls Public Library just isn’t enough.
