Idaho scores a B for employment, A for lifestyle, Wyoming gets an A for development capacity, F for vitality

An economic development report card released Wednesday gave Idaho high marks for employment growth, but a failing grade for the type of jobs created.

The 2004 CFED Report Card for the States gave Idaho a B (up from a C in 2003) and ranked it 16th in the nation for job opportunities, but an F and a ranking of 43rd for the quality and earning power of those jobs.

Wyoming gets an A for development capacity, F for vitality

CHEYENNE (AP) — A report card released Wednesday of states’ economic health gives Wyoming an A grade for economic development capacity, a B for overall economic performance and an F for business vitality.

The annual study was compiled by the nonprofit Center for Enterprise Development, which considers 68 measures in compiling the three grades. The center describes its mission as expanding economic opportunity and promoting asset-building, primarily in low-income and distressed communities.

Two economic development experts were skeptical about parts of the report, however.
