"In just two years, Specialty Export Productions has decided to place its second facility in North Dakota," said Lt. Governor Jack Dalrymple. "Businesses like Specialty Export Productions add value to North Dakota-grown commodities. They also provide additional market opportunities for our farmers that will help us continue to revitalize rural North Dakota."

The East Fairview facility will operate as Specialty Exports and will provide growers in a 100-mile radius with expanded opportunities to market their products.

"Our facilities only handle commodities that have to be identity-preserved," stated Max Crouse, president of Specialty Export Productions which is headquartered in Greenfield, TN. "It is a competitive advantage for our business to be located in North Dakota where growers deliver a high-quality product and you have a large number of certified-organic producers,"

Mon-Dak Seed and Grain purchased the assets of Fairview Bean and Seed located in Fairview, MT, and East Fairview, ND. The company is currently demolishing portions of the existing facility and plans to build a high-capacity cleaning operation with 113,300 bushels of capacity in East Fairview.

"This is our first export-focused project in McKenzie County and we are excited about its potential," said Gene Veeder, director of the McKenzie County Job Development Authority (JDA). "The addition of this facility provides expanded market opportunities for our growers and that translates into increased stability and income for northwestern North Dakota and eastern Montana farmers."

Founded in 1992, Specialty Export Productions has locations in North Dakota, Tennessee and Rosario, Argentina. Specialty Export Argentina was added in 1999 to expand production and provide crops from the southern hemisphere, giving the company the ability to provide customers with product year-round.

Organic oilseeds and grains have been the main focus of Specialty Export Productions in the last 10 years, with most exports going to Europe. The rapidly expanding organic food infrastructure in the United States has also provided for new domestic growth opportunities.

"We believe the Mon-Dak region is an up-and-coming growth area, and we believe we can bring markets to the area where everyone will benefit," Crouse said.

Partners on the project include McKenzie County Bank, the McKenzie County JDA, the Williston Star Fund, the Tri-County Regional Development Council, the North Dakota Development Fund, the Bank of North Dakota, and the divisions of Community Services and Economic Development & Finance at the North Dakota Department of Commerce.

"Successful economic development involves our continued work in three areas – business start-ups, expansions and recruitment," said Lee Peterson, commissioner of the North Dakota Department of Commerce. "Working with our partners, we’ve assisted more companies than ever before with expansions in North Dakota communities like Williston, Jamestown, Fessenden and Wahpeton. Together, we are improving the quality of life for the people of North Dakota."
