INEEL tech transfer company Nitro Data Systems Secures $2.5 Million Round of Funding and leaves Idaho

New president named and corporate headquarters relocates and expands to accommodate rapid growth and demand for intrusion prevention products

Nitro Data Systems, a leading provider of security technology for computer networks, today announces the successful raising of $2.5 million in new funding from a group of investors led by Ken Levine, a former principal of Cabletron Systems. The company also announces Terry Christensen as president and COO, and the move of its corporate headquarters to newly expanded facilities in Portsmouth.

"We’re entering a phase of significant growth due to the demand for our Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) and the proven superiority of our technology," says Mr. Christensen. "The new funding from Levine and his group allows us to further expand our sales, marketing, and engineering teams, and to invest additional funds into our world-class R&D efforts."

Nitro Data Systems has recently grown from 15 to 30 employees – adding veteran sales and marketing professionals in Portsmouth and software engineers in its Idaho Falls, Idaho, research and development facility.

The company’s flagship product, NitroGuard Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), uses its patented, world’s fastest database platform to constantly monitor computer networks – identifying and stopping viruses, hackers and other damaging cyber attacks before they can wreak electronic havoc on a company’s business.

Nitro Data Systems was initially launched in 2001 as a technology transfer venture out of the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory, part of the elite national research network that includes the famed Los Alamos National Laboratory.

With far-superior technology to its credit, the company recently began a drive to build a more complete business operation that can apply its advanced technology to the highly-active IPS market.

Mr. Christensen, with over 15 years of high-tech sales and management experience, now leads that effort and has already expanded the company’s portfolio of customers, channel partners and business alliances. In addition to expanding Nitro’s U.S. operations, Mr. Christensen facilitated the opening of an international sales office based in Singapore based on product demand in the Asia Pacific market.

His professional career includes several senior positions at Cabletron Systems, including regional manager-global accounts, national account manager and global sales director for Cabletron Systems. After Cabletron, Christensen joined Network Associates as global enterprise manager. He also served as President and CEO of Vynamic, Inc., director of sales for Imaging Automation, and executive vice president for NMI, a security consultancy.
