• Nov. 6 – Dr. Brett Mizelle discusses Lewis and Clark in newsprint right after the conclusion of the expedition in 1806. His presentation is titled “Displaying the Expanding Nation to Itself: The Public Exhibition of Western Fauna in Lewis and Clark’s America.” Mizelle is an Assistant Professor of History at California State University, Long Beach. He has essays forthcoming on animal entrepreneurs and the market revolution and on the natural history of the Lewis and Clark expedition.

• Nov. 13 – Carolyn Gilman, curator of Lewis and Clark: The National Bicentennial Exhibition, which is currently touring the country, will discuss how she found artifacts and where they are today. Her presentation is titled "Lewis & Clark: New Questions, New Answers." Gilman is Special Projects Historian at the Missouri Historical Society, and for the last seven years has been curator of Lewis and Clark: The National Bicentennial Exhibition, which is currently touring nationwide. She compiled Lewis and Clark Catalog, which accompanies the exhibit. She also is author of Lewis and Clark: Across the Divide, as well as five other books on aspects of Native American and Western history. Following her presentation, Gilman will sign copies of Lewis and Clark: Across the Divide.

• Nov. 20 – Roger Wendlick will discuss collecting Lewis and Clark materials in “The Wendlick Collection.” After 18 years of collecting books about Lewis and Clark, Wendlick donated his collection to Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. The collection is believed to be the finest about the expedition ever collected by a single person. Some of the 1,200 individual pieces are quite rare. The collection includes all editions of the journal kept by Sergeant Patrick Gass. Wendlick’s quest began with a plate his mother left him from the 1905 Lewis and Clark Trade and Oriental Exposition in Portland. Wendlick, of Portland, is a semi-retired construction worker.

Through live programs, interpretive trails, 6,000 square feet of hands-on exhibits, and a movie by acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns, the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center brings alive for visitors the indomitable spirit of exploration as embodied by the 1804-1806 Lewis and Clark Expedition through western North America. The Interpretive Center is managed by the USDA Forest Service.
