Solo Piano Album, "MONTANA – A LOVE STORY" Inspired by Montana is George Winston’s Tenth Solo Piano Work, National Tour Dates posted
In Stores October 12
National Tour Continues Through Spring ’05
Thirty-two years after the release of
his first album, and 24 years after he began to record what is now recognized
as his signature style of melodic folk piano, Grammy winner George Winston’s
tenth solo piano album, MONTANA – A LOVE STORY, is scheduled for release on
Windham Hill October 12.
MONTANA – A LOVE STORY, inspired by the rich themes of the childhood years
Winston spent in Montana, was originally conceived as a sequel to his 1999
album PLAINS, which paid homage to his Eastern Montana upbringing. This album
continues the thread begun with his 1994 Grammy-winning album FOREST, which
evoked the Western part of the state, and represents a marriage of the
pronounced seasonal changes and the distinct landscapes of both sides of his
home state.
MONTANA – A LOVE STORY features five original songs — including
High Plains Lullaby and The Mountain Winds Call Your Name, as well as
interpretations of pieces by composers Philip Aaberg (Nevertheless, Hello),
Mark Isham (Thumbelina), Frank Zappa (The Little House I Used to Live In), Sam
Cooke (You Send Me), and others.
"With MONTANA – A LOVE STORY, I have completed a circle, re-visiting the
memories of my upbringing in Montana and combining three influences — the
changing of the seasons, the different topographies, and secondarily,
sociological influences — all coming full circle with my present relationship
with Montana," said the artist.
To promote the album, George will embark upon a characteristically
rigorous tour, performing more than 110 live concerts a year. This includes
solo piano concerts (the Summer Show or the Winter Show), solo piano dances
(with R&B and slow dance songs), solo guitar concerts, and solo harmonica
concerts. At each of his concerts, George conducts a canned food drive in
conjunction with a local food bank, and donates the proceeds from all albums
sold at his concerts to charity.
Tour dates follow.
