The initiative, a joint effort of the Governor’s Office; PlusTime NH, a public-private partnership that supports afterschool programs across the state and the Governor’s Task Force on Afterschool Programs seeks to:

* Raise $1.5 million from the state business community

* Increase the availability of afterschool programs; and

* Build the capacity of afterschool programs through public-private partnerships.

As part of this initiative, with support from the NGA Center for Best Practices, Governor Benson recently hosted a summit to inform business leaders about the progress of extra learning opportunities throughout the state and the role they can play to strengthen programs. Due to new support, PlusTime NH was able to provide the match for a challenge grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The federal dollars will support seven demonstration sites.
