Call center to add 200 more jobs – Addition will boost West Corp. to 1,900 workers in Spokane

West Corp., which two weeks ago announced it would add 800 call-center jobs in Spokane, said Friday it will add 200 more.

The company’s Spokane human resources manager, Lynn Johnson, said that only 200 of the first 800 jobs have been filled so far, leaving a total of 800 more full-time jobs to fill.

Of those, about half will pay starting wages of $9 an hour to qualified applicants, she said. The other 400 jobs will start in the $7.19-to-$7.50 per hour range. All of the positions include benefits such as medical and dental insurance, paid vacations and a 401(k) program.

The $9-per-hour jobs will be part of West’s Spokane division that handles incoming customer-service calls for a major cell-phone carrier, said company spokesman Mac McNeer. The remaining jobs will be part of the Spokane-based Dakotah Direct group, which handles incoming calls for a number of financial institutions across the country.

West, a major call-center company based in Omaha, acquired Dakotah Direct Inc. in 2002. Once filled, the new positions will bring West’s head count in Spokane to 1,900 jobs.

Nearly all the new jobs will be based at the company’s main Spokane site in the Holley Mason Building, at 157 S. Howard, Johnson said. Applications can be made there or by calling (509) 789-6450, she added. Job applications will be accepted starting Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and throughout next week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
