Intermountain Venture Forum Issues Call for Presenters 2004 Forum scheduled October 6-7 at the Boise Centre on the Grove

The Boise Metro Economic Development Council (BMEDC) is calling for entrepreneurs to present at the 6th annual Intermountain Venture Forum to be held in Boise, October 6-7. The mission of the forum is to initiate relationships with and to create opportunities for start-up companies in the Intermountain West and Pacific Northwest. Last year 15 companies from six states – Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Utah – presented business plans and participated in panel discussions during the forum.

Committed to maintaining the West as the nation’s best place to start and grow a business, the BMEDC is now accepting applications from early-stage companies interested in showcasing their businesses to both angel investors and venture capital firms at the 2004 Intermountain Venture Forum. Approximately 15 companies will be chosen from the applicants to make formal presentations to three BMEDC panels.

“We have an exciting addition to the forum this year, a new panel – a government panel – will be added to the existing VC and angel panels,” says Mark Solon, Managing Partner of Highway 12 Ventures and this year’s Forum Chairman. “This panel’s primary focus will be on start-ups and the government market. We are also extremely fortunate to have two world-class caliber speakers joining us, Matt Mosman, President, CEO and Chairman of Cerberian, Inc. and an Idaho native will deliver the welcome address. Dr. Carl Ledbetter, Managing Partner of UV Partners and former Senior Vice President and CTO of Novell will be the keynote speaker.”

The annual forum comes amidst increased activity in venture capital investment. A recent study by VentureWire, a Dow Jones & Co. publication, found the pace of investment in new companies has noticeably picked up. So far this year, dollars invested in new companies are up 28 percent from the prior year period. According to the National Venture Capital

Association, VC business is at the beginning of a recovery period, making 2004 an optimal time to initiate proposals that demonstrate the vision and economic potential of new companies.

Anyone wishing to present business plans at the event is invited to submit an application to the BMEDC by August 13, 2004. For more information or to complete an online
application, visit the website at http://www.ventureboise.org.
