Report Links Public Education, Economic Development
Public education can affect economic development, according to a new report from the Knowledgeworks Foundation report. Research suggests that states can become more economically competitive through education.

The report argues that education can be viewed as an investment, documenting research that suggests:
* Education enhances productivity;
* Quality public schools can help make states and localities more economically competitive;
* Public schools influence property values; and
* School facilities quality affects economic development.
In addition to providing a literature review, the report suggests additional state or local efforts to gauge economic impacts of public education, such as state-by-state economic impact studies.
