Technology magazine to debut this fall – Inland Catalyst will focus on area’s business and technology issues in the Inland Northwest

Spokane businessman Greg Green has invested in a new business-and-technology magazine to debut this fall.

Green, chairman and CEO of OneEighty Networks Inc., http://www.go180.net.has joined forces with Vincent Bozzi, publisher of an area lifestyles magazine, to start the new venture.

How much Green invested in the magazine, to be called Inland Catalyst, was not disclosed. "It’s not a small amount. It’s five figures, and the first figure is not a 1," Green said.

Green, who has spent most of his career developing telecommunications companies, said he sees the magazine as a vehicle to inspire and benefit the region.

At one point, Green considered buying the now-defunct Local Planet, an alternative Spokane weekly.

That purchase would have been solely to develop a magazine focusing on the area’s broad diversity in technology and business.

"But then I realized I might as well start our own magazine," he said.

Since 1999, Bozzi has been publisher of Spokane Coeur d’Alene Living, a full-color magazine with a focus on area personalities and homes.

The first issue of Inland Catalyst will come out in October. It will appear six times a year "but could grow to being a monthly," Green said.

Green and Bozzi have hired Ed Haag, a Spokane-area free-lance writer, as the magazine’s associate editor. They’ll also add two salespeople, Bozzi said.

He expects the first year’s issues to be free, with advertising revenue the main driver of growth, he said. The magazine will be distributed to area businesses, offices and hotels.

"The primary audience may be Spokane and North Idaho," Green said. "But we want to include the Tri-Cities, Walla Walla and Moscow and Pullman."

He said early issues will include stories on technology groups in the area, the breadth of financial services firms in Spokane and the region, and a look at the health care industry.

Each issue, added Bozzi, will include several "how-to" tips for small-business owners, covering topics such as using technology productively, cutting business taxes and eliminating spam.
