Indiana Launches New Business Web site for businesses to market to each other and to state agencies

Indiana Gov. Joe Kernan recently announced the launch of the new "Buy Indiana" Web site http://www.opportunityindiana.in.gov/ .

"Marketing a business can be expensive, and many small businesses depend on referrals and networking for new customers," Kernan said. "The Buy Indiana Web site is a new way for Indiana companies to market themselves to each other and to state government agencies."

Businesses will be listed in a buyer and seller database on the site. As the database grows, businesses and consumers will be able to search by product, service, company, city or ZIP code.

A business can be listed in the Buy Indiana directory if it is:

* Headquartered in Indiana;

* Derives more than half of its revenue from businesses in Indiana; or

* If more than half of its employees are Indiana residents.

There is no cost to be listed or to access the site’s information. However, to be listed, businesses must register as a bidder with the state of Indiana. Electronic registration is available on the site.

Additionally, consumers can access and register with the state’s Minority and Women’s Enterprises Directory through the Buy Indiana site.
