Governor Martz Appoints Kala French of Kalispell, a student at Montana State University, Student Regent

Governor Judy Martz today announced the appointment of Kala French
of Kalispell, a student at Montana State University, to a three year term on
the Montana University System’s Board of Regents. She succeeds Christian
Hur whose term expires on July 1, 2004.

"I want to express my deepest thanks to the Montana Association of Students
for nominating three excellent student leaders for this very important
position," Governor Martz said. "Each of the nominees was very
knowledgeable
about the issues and would have made excellent regents. I am confident that
Kala will perform admirably on the Board. She has an impressive grasp of
the
issues has already demonstrated a real interest in the Board of Regents by
attending several of their meetings over the past year. She will be a real
asset to the Board. I look forward to working with her."

French, a rising sophomore at Montana State University – Bozeman, is a
political science and business management major. She currently serves as a
senator with the Associated Students of Montana State University. She is an
member of the MSU College Republicans and formerly served as a page in the
United States Senate and as an intern with the Kalispell Chamber of
Commerce.

"I am honored by and thankful for the Governor’s appointment to be the next
Student Regent on Montana’s Board of Regents," French stated. "I am
thankful
for the trust Governor Martz and her team have placed in me. As the first
woman Governor, she has been an inspiration to me. I hope to follow her
example and bring a strong voice to the educational issues that will move
our state forward. I believe wholeheartedly in Montana’s higher education
system, and look forward to making improvements to increase availability
and
opportunity for all who seek an education in this state."

French will be seated at the July meeting of the Board of Regents and will
serve until July 2007. The other finalists for the position were Brad
Cederberg of the University of Montana and Carrie Severson of Montana State
University.
