Copyrights, Fair use and the Net. Good info for students

This site provides a clever way to educate students about using copyrighted materials in their reports and on any web sites they develop. I learned info I didn’t know so thought teachers would be interested as well http://www.cyberbee.com/cb_copyright.swf

(Thanks to Marsha A. Goetting, Ph.D. at Montana State University for finding these sites and Peggy Iba for passing her information along.- Russ)

This site provides answers to three frequently asked questions concerning copyrights and what they protect: What type of creative work does copyright protect? Does a copyright protect an author’s creative ideas? How long does a copyright last?

This site from Nolo explains the "fair use" rule. Under the "fair use" rule of copyright law, authors and educators may make limited use of another person’s work without asking permission. Listed are five basic rules to keep in mind when decided whether or not a particular use of a work is "fair use".
