Horizon Frees Montana Fliers from Weekend-Stay Rule and Offers New Lower Fares

Horizon Air has done away with the weekend-stay rule on all fares to and from Montana and is offering new fares from the Big Sky state that are lower and simpler.

Instead of the traditional weekend-stay requirement, all of Horizon’s Montana fares — including its lowest regular prices, sale fares and Web-only specials — have only a one-night minimum stay or none at all.

Horizon has also lowered many of its lowest Montana rates and eliminated all maximum-stay requirements and fuel surcharges.

While everyone can benefit from the lower fares, banishment of the weekend stay rule will be especially appealing to business travelers. That’s because now they can qualify for a lower fare without having to stay past a Friday or Saturday before returning.

"Now when you fly Horizon from Montana, you can get a low fare and return home to be with your family without giving up part of your weekend," said Patrick Zachwieja, Horizon’s vice president of marketing and planning.

The restructuring covers fares from Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Great Falls, Helena, Kalispell and Missoula to all the cities in the United States and Canada served by Horizon and its partner, Alaska Airlines.

Over the last couple of months, Horizon has tested a similar version of the new fare structure for travel to and from Billings only. Based on the success of its Billings trial, Horizon has permanently restructured its Billings fares as well as fares from the six other Montana cities the airline serves.

Horizon Air has been flying to Montana since 1986. Horizon was founded 22 years ago and has grown to become the nation’s eighth-largest regional airline, serving nearly 5 million passengers last year. In 2003, Horizon Air’s average on-time performance exceeded that of all major airlines tracked by the Department of Transportation. Horizon Air and Alaska are subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK).
