Missouri Enacts Innovative Jobs Legislation

In an effort to continue Missouri’s economic momentum, Governor Bob Holden recently signed into law the Jobs Now Act which is designed to create jobs throughout the state by targeting investment in local infrastructure, stimulating growth in targeted industries like plant and life sciences, and by providing increased funding to ensure a highly skilled workforce in the state. The Jobs Now Act provides local communities with additional funding for job-creating construction projects, focuses on worker training programs essential to workforce productivity, and through the use of enterprise zones, will help focus state policies to support targeted growth industries of the future.

Over the past nine months, Missouri has created more jobs than all but nine other states, and throughout the national recession, Missouri’s unemployment rate has remained below most other states. The new job plan is funded through the repeal of five tax credit programs and will allow investments from federal funds.
