A forum designed to help community leaders decide how to take advantage of changing demographics and regional economies is scheduled for Thursday at Deaconess Billings Clinic.

Sponsored by the O’Conner Center for the Rocky Mountain West http://crmw.org/ and the Institute of Public Policy and Research http://www.umt.edu/polsci/polsci15.htm , both affiliated with the University of Montana, and the Billings-based Foundation for Community Vitality, the "Montana on the Move" forum will be attended by 50 to 60 government and business leaders. It is being hosted by Celebrate Billings and the city of Billings.

Seven other communities around the state are engaged in Montana on the Move activities, and a second forum is scheduled in Billings for June 23 at St. Vincent Healthcare. Participants will hear from speakers outlining some of the economic and demographic changes affecting Montana and then try to determine how to use that information to support community and economic-development activities already under way.

The emphasis of this forum and others around the state is on broad, nonpartisan community involvement in data-driven assessments of each community’s strengths and weaknesses and possible local and state policy needs and reforms.
