AMIS reports record revenues: Pocatello firm posts $128.3 million in sales

AMI Semiconductor Inc. has reported record revenues for the second straight quarter.

According to a recent news release, the Gate City-based computer chip manufacturer tallied sales of $128.3 million for the first three months of 2004. That represents a 25 percent increase over the same period a year ago and a 2 percent increase from the previous quarter.

"We’re going in the right direction," said Arlen Wittrock, the company’s director of public affairs and communication.

The news release attributed AMIS’ surging sales to a 10 percent growth in the company’s integrated mixed-signal circuit product line.

Integrated mixed-signal circuits are computer chips capable of receiving, sending or translating digital and analog signals. Many companies manufacture mixed-signal circuits, which are found in various products including wireless telephones, automobile anti-lock braking systems and electronic medical devices.

Wittrock said integrated mixed-signal circuits are AMIS’ largest product line.

AMIS sold more products last year than ever before. According to the news release, the company expects revenue for the second quarter to increase 3 to 5 percent.

Originally based in California, AMI Semiconductor was founded in 1966. A Pocatello manufacturing facility was built in 1970 and the company’s headquarters was transferred here in 2001.

In May 2003, AMIS completed construction of its Pocatello engineering research facility. The company went public in September and is traded on the NASDAQ stock market. AMIS stock closed at $15.57 per share Tuesday, up 72 cents from Monday.

Wittrock said AMI Semiconductor employs 1,150 people in Pocatello and more than 2,600 worldwide. It has plants in Belgium and the Philippines and several worldwide design centers and sales offices.
