A workshop on international tourism marketing strategies and techniques will be held from 8 to 11:30 a.m. May 5 at the Shilo Inn.

The workshop is free.

Successful completion of the workshop entitles tourism businesses to apply for grant funds for first-time attendance at international travel trade shows such as Rocky Mountain International Round-Up and Travel Industry of America’s PowWow.

"Visitors from the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan are interested in discovering the ‘American West,’" said Karen Ballard of the Idaho Department of Commerce. "This workshop will provide practical hands-on advice on developing tour packages that attract international travelers."

Participants will also receive a workbook outlining the basic steps, including practical tips for providing international customer service.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, overseas visitors stay longer, spend more money and like to visit smaller communities to experience the American way of life.

RSVP by Friday to the Twin Falls Area Chamber of Commerce at 733-3974 or via e-mail to Ron Gardner at [email protected]. The workshop is offered at no charge and is open to the public.

Funding for the workshop is provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce through the Western States Tourism Policy Council, 13 states responsible for developing the workshop curriculum.
