"What a Window" products made in Helena available for sale on QVC this Sunday

Television shoppers across the country will have an opportunity to buy products from a Helena business Sunday morning, as the window coverings of What a Window! http://www.whatawindow.com/ will be featured on the cable shopping network QVC.

The opaque window coverings, officially named WindowViews, will be peddled for six to eight minutes sometime between 9 and 10 Sunday morning. A QVC spokesperson said Tuesday that the WindowViews are the sixth item in the lineup that hour.

The static-cling plastic sheets fit over standard-sized windows and replace an undesireble view with a scenic picture of some kind. The QVC show will feature four designs — a pair of mountain scenes, a bubbling creek and a sunny beach.

"It was awesome watching the Mergenthaler’s semi-truck pull away from our warehouse with a load of our products headed for a QVC distribution center in Virginia," said company founder and president Greg Brask.

Brask said he will appear on the network to talk about his product, which will appear during a "Do It Yourself" hour. He’s hopeful that the QVC appearance will be a springboard to bigger sales for the company.

"I’ve been to many national retailers, and without exception they have all liked our products," he said. "It seems everybody wants to carry a ‘winner,’ they just all want to be the second retailer to carry it. I give QVC a lot of credit. They’ve stepped up to the plate to take a risk with us."

West Chester, Pa.-based QVC first took to the air in 1986. In 2002 the company fielded more than 150 million phone calls and reached $4.4 billion in sales. Jewelry accounts for almost 30 percent of the network’s programming, with clothing and home furnishings also popular.

The company wouldn’t say how many WindowViews it has purchased for Sunday’s show, but vendor information on its Web site says QVC typically spends $20,000 to $25,000 wholesale per item.
