California company Datatic Technologies and native North Dakotan announce location in Langdon

North Dakota Department of Commerce Commissioner Lee Peterson, along with company and local officials, today announced that Datatic Technologies http://www.datatic.com will locate in Langdon, N.D.

The company has developed software that allows businesses to make intelligent decisions based on patterns or trends in their data. Applications of the software range from allowing buyers and sellers of lettuce and other commodities to track real time price and volume, to allowing Homeland Security First Responders to track incidents as they occur.

"We are pleased to welcome Datatic Technologies to Langdon and to North Dakota," Peterson said. "By doing things differently, local and state economic development groups are working side-by-side with quality, high-tech projects like Datatic to further their growth and prosperity."

Founded in 2000, Datatic is based in Palo Alto, Calif., and also has a software development team in Pune, India. CEO Rock Clapper, Ph.D., is a North Dakota native from Carrington and began considering North Dakota locations for his company last fall.

"I was reading the business section of the San Jose Mercury News and discovered a front-page article about Gov. Hoeven’s interest in bringing Silicon Valley, high-tech companies to North Dakota," Clapper said. "The Department of Commerce staff invited me to a North Dakota business reception in San Jose in early November, and by December, I was visiting communities in North Dakota."

The company’s board of directors was looking for forward-thinking, aggressive communities that would be suitable for it, as well as other high-tech companies interested in locating offices in North Dakota. "We found the best fit in Langdon," Clapper said.

Datatic has developed a partnership with two publicly traded companies from Silicon Valley and will demonstrate the effectiveness of the combined hardware and software in North Dakota. The companies were waiting for Datatic to select a strategic site in North Dakota before launching. Now that Langdon has been selected, the demonstration will begin immediately.

The company expects to hire up to 12, technically skilled people in the next several months with a salary range of $40,000 – $65,000 annually. "Most of the positions are in computer programming and computer networking," Clapper said. "We also are seeking individuals with expertise in general business development and others with administrative backgrounds."

Datatic employees in Langdon will address all aspects of technology development and management, as well as the company’s business development, including sales and marketing, and operations.

"Economic development is a long-term process with short-term expectations," said Linda Butts, director of the Economic Development and Finance Division of the Commerce Department. "In this case, a process that often takes a few years occurred in a handful of months. The result is good-paying jobs for North Dakota people and growth and prosperity for another business located in the state."

Partners on the project include the Cavalier County JDA, the city of Langdon, Ottertail Power Company, Cavalier Rural Electric Cooperative, United Telephone Mutual Aid Corporation, USDA Rural Development, Northeast Workforce Quadrant, Job Service North Dakota, the North Dakota Department of Commerce, North Dakota State University and the University of North Dakota.

"We are excited about today’s announcement. This project exemplifies the ability of our local leaders to pull together and present a compelling case for Datatic to locate in Langdon. In addition, we received considerable support from the North Dakota Department of Commerce to get us to this day," said Carol Goodman, director of the Cavalier County Job Development Authority.
