The Good Food Store, which created the equivalent of about 45 new full-time jobs when it moved to its location on South Third Street West, received the C.P. Higgins Award, and Technical Sourcing International, which is located at the Missoula Development Park, received the Frank Worden Award.

"The Good Food Store is a great example of a local business that has grown to become an important contributor to the community," said Dick King, MAEDC’s president and chief executive officer.

Technical Sourcing International employs about 500 people worldwide and coordinates production and distribution facilities from its Missoula headquarters. The company researches, produces and markets ingredients to the dietary supplement, pharmaceutical and food and beverage industries.

In 2000, a representative of the company was part of a 20-person Montana trade delegation that traveled to four Asian countries with U.S. Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont.

"This company could be located anywhere and it has chosen to be here," said King.

Also at the meeting, Mark Moreland, co-owner of Rocky Mountain Homes in Hamilton, talked about the company’s marketing strategy.

"We are working hard to build a brand identity for our product," he said.

The 200-employee company has launched a partnership with Orvis, which Moreland hopes will reinforce its marketing efforts.

"The log-home industry in the Bitterroot Valley accounts for about $30 million of labor income in Ravalli County," King said. "The number of manufacturing jobs in the county has grown from 670 in 1970 to more than 1,500."

New MAEDC officers for 2004 include Bob Kelly, owner of Intertech, chairman; Diane Beck of Gillespie Realty, chair-elect; Keith Sommer of KECI-TV, vice chair; Frank D’Angelo of D.A. Davidson, secretary; and Bill Bouchee of First Security Bank, director.

New directors joining the board are Tom Walsh of Montana Rail Link and Jim O’Neill of Oz Architects.
